MISSING - 18 10 Story High Hot Air Balloons

OK, maybe I'm admitting something I'll be embarrassed about, but somehow I lost 28 hot air balloons!

I was up Saturday morning at 4:15AM. Made coffee, fueled up Pearl the Wonder Jeep, and made the treck across town to The Woodlands. I was going to watch the hot air balloon competition, which was supposed to be part of the The Great American Barbecue event being held there this weekend. It was a beautiful morning, very calm and quiet at 6am, the time given for the start of the balloon flights. The barbequers were just starting to stir. The smoke from their woodfired cookers was wafting through the air. Birds were singing. I was happy.... until I finally had to admit I COULDN'T FIND ANY HOT AIR BALLOONS!

I drove all around the area. I sat and watche dthe skies in hopes of seeing the stately form of a hot air balloon. I never did see any! Did anyone else? Did I just not know where to look? The directions on the website stated "Balloon Field at the SW entrance of the Woodlands". I think that's where I was.

What happened to the balloons?????

Art Collector.... well SMALL Art Collector

A little while back a friend of mine, Betty from the Blue and Gray Bookshop, turned me on to a hot new collectible. They're called ACEO's, which stands for Art Cards Editions and Originals. They're little artworks, just 3 1/2" by 2 1/2" in size. I fell in love with them! Looking on eBay, there are THOUSANDS of them for sale. Today, I finally WON one! This is a mountain scene, painted by a local artist, who sells under the ID of lcl2003 . I can hardly wait to get this little treasure in my hands! Thanks to Betty and Linda for getting my ACEO collection started!

Vintage Postcards From Kansas City's past

One of my hobbies is collecting vintage postcards, particularly those who's subject matter has to do with places I've been, or want to go. I find these gems to be like minature artworks, and spend many happy moments gazing at them.

I have several postcards dealing with Kansas City landmarks, some of which you can still visit today, some which are no longer in existence. I'd like to share some of my treasures with you here from time to time.

Here a postcard of Union Station postcards that I just won on eBay. As with all of my eBay wins, I can hardly wait to get the original in my hands!

Does anyone else collect postcards? Maybe we can trade some!

Cousins Catfish Castle

Last night was my second visit to Cousins Catfish Castle on 40 Highway in Independence. My friend Steve, somewhat of a gourmand, and I had made plans to try out this rather new restaurant shortly after my FIRST visit. We are both fond of tenderloin sandwiches. My first visit had been to pick up catfish and take it out to my Dad's. It's one of his favorites, but not mine, nor my brother. I'd planned on getting chicken for the non-fish eaters, but upon seeing the tenderloins, had gotten those instead. We all enjoyed them a lot, even though they were only lukewarm by the time they'd made the trip to Liberty. I'd told Steve we'd have to try them sometime, and last night we did.

We both got the tenderloin sandwich meal, which includes a side dish. I got the fries, and also a small coleslaw side. Steve got the green beans. The tenderloins were large and hot, being seasoned nicely, breaded and deep fried. They were about twice the size of my hand, and about as thick, served on a nice sandwich bun spread with mayonnaise. Garnishes of lettuce, sliced onion, and sliced tomato were also provided. It was all quite good. You could hear purrs of contentment coming from both Steve and I as the conversation was overpowered by the knoshing. I will be back again, perhaps to try some of the other delicacies served up by Cousins.

Besides the tenderloins, Cousins has several kinds of fish; catfish, orange roughy, red snapper, and shrimp. They also have chicken, hamburgers, and several other items on the menu. So far, everyone I know that has eaten here has rated it quite good. Prices are reasonable. Cousins has 4 locations around town, this one on 40 Hiway just west of Noland Road, is there newest one.

If you like catfish, and other deep fried treats, give Cousins Catfish Castle a try!

Kansas City Star has a new look!

Another Blog Is Possible has a report on the new format being used by The Kansas City Star. I'll be anxious to see what all the changes are. One that sounds interesting is a smaller page size. That's always one of the inconveniences when reading the paper, just manipulating those big pages. The Star says the new size will make the paper easier to hold and to "spread out on the table at breakfast". Sounds interesting.

A "sneak peak" of the newly designed paper, due for full release in June, is available in today's paper. The "FYI" and "Food" sections appear in their new format. Since I didn't get my paper picked up this morning, I'll have to wait to get a look at them.

It will be interesting to see what you all think of the new design.

Easy way to keep up with your blog reading

I was going to write an article about how to keep up with blog reading. I KNOW you want to keep up with all of MY blogs, and, perhaps, you have others that you occassionally read too. Well, before I could get my stuff together, I came across this blog entry from Eric Zorn of the Chicago Tribune:
    http://blogs.chicagotribune.com/news_columnists_ezorn/2006/02/23_real_simple_.html

Eric did such a swell job of describing how to use Bloglines, that I thought it better to share this than to write my own!
